PIKO Shop System in England
Gaugemaster Controls plc are the UK importer of PIKO products. Alongside their busy wholesale business, Rod and Dianne Taylor also own the specialist model railway store The Engine Shed, mainly stocking British model railways (usually in OO Scale, 1:76) as well as continental products.
In 2008, Ian Fowler, the General Manager of Gaugemaster, had a plan to make The Engine Shed one of most modern specialist model railway stores in the UK. So work began in May 2008 with the reconstruction of part of this already large store that would become Bahnhof Europa – their new continental model railway boutique. After a lot of hard work from all the staff, the store was ready to open in September 2008.
An important requirement for the company was the integration in this new specialist store of a PIKO Shop system. Dr. René F. Wilfer was invited to open this new store and Gaugemaster were thrilled when he agreed to perform the grand opening on 27th September 2008.
At the event, which took place in lovely autumn weather – many customers, representatives from manufacturers and all the English model press as well as local media, looked on as a video presentation heralded the opening of this new store. Mr and Mrs Taylor, their children Caroline and Matt and all the staff looked on proudly as Dr Rene F Wilfer opened the most modern specialist model railway store in the UK.
