Inauguration of the AVE route to Barcelona

The new Spanish AVE (Alta Velocidad Española) high-speed rail service route to Barcelona was inaugurated in February 2008.

Initial teething problems with the service on this stretch have been resolved in the meantime and this route is now the most successful in all of Spain.

On June 4th, in commemoration of the grand-opening of this new route, the Spanish PIKO importer Trenes-Aguilo, in cooperation with the model train club „Amics del tren de Pineda de Mar“, presented the Spanish Prime Minister Mr. Rodrigues Zapatero with a PIKO model of the high-speed AVE S-103 train.

The jubilant presentation of the model in Barcelona was also attended by Mr. Montilla, the governor of the region of Catalonia.

Prime Minister Mr. Rodriguez Zapatero signed a PIKO AVE model, which will occupy a place of honor in a display case at the offices of Trenes-Aguilo.
