Mario Voigt assumes patronage of the PIKO “Tag der Offenen Tür” on 20 June in Sonneberg.

Sonneberg, January 2026 – A special event is casting its shadow ahead: On Saturday, 20 June 2026, PIKO Spielwaren GmbH in Sonneberg will open its doors for the “Tag der Offenen Tür” (TOFT). Thuringia’s Minister-President Mario Voigt has assumed patronage of the event and will be personally present on the day.

With this patronage, the Tag der Offenen Tür receives special recognition. It underlines the importance of PIKO as an internationally successful industrial company with deep roots in Thuringia – and as a key driver for the economic and living environment of Southern Thuringia.

The “Tag der Offenen Tür” is a corporate and experiential event that uniquely combines production, brand and a family experience. At the company headquarters at Lutherstraße 30 in Sonneberg, visitors gain exclusive insights behind the scenes of one of Europe’s most traditional model railway manufacturers. More than 15,000 guests from Germany and abroad are expected in a single day – making TOFT demonstrably one of the largest single-day events in Southern Thuringia and Upper Franconia.

Numerous activities, presentations and program items are planned around the world of model railways, appealing to both families and dedicated model railway enthusiasts. A special highlight will be specially organized steam locomotive special trips, running from various destinations directly to Sonneberg for the “Tag der Offenen Tür.” In addition, local and regional tourism associations will join the event with special TOFT arrangements, creating attractive offers related to travel and accommodation.

The “Tag der Offenen Tür” takes place at PIKO on a regular cycle of approximately every two years and has enjoyed exceptionally high media attention for many years in both regional and national coverage.
