Further information about the prototype and the model:

From 1893, large numbers of the steam locomotive G7.1 of the Prussian Federal Railroad were built by most of the large Prussian locomotive manufacturers. The four-coupled locomotives were mainly meant for heavy freight train service on steep routes. Until 1917, 1.202 specimen of the simple but robust loco were delivered to the Prussian Federal Railways. In 1925, the German Reichsbahn took over 680 G7.1 locos and re-labelled them 55 001 to 55 660. After WW II, the Bundesbahn often used the locomotives for switching service and took them out of service until 1957. The German Reichsbahn actively used the locomotives until 1966.
