Some information about the prototype and model

In the early 1980s, the Dutch state railways began a major modernisation campaign for their rolling stock. For this purpose, the Talbot company from Aachen supplied modern passenger coaches approved for 160 km/h, initially in three versions: 1st class coaches, 2nd class coaches and 2nd class coaches with luggage compartment. The Y32 bogies in particular were borrowed from the Corail coaches from France, which had been leased by the NS for several years. Until 1988, 317 coaches were built, which were roughly divided into three technical variants: Some of the coaches were intended for domestic traffic in the Netherlands, while the other variants were intended for Benelux or international traffic. For the latter purpose, multi-voltage heating systems and folding steps were installed. For the Benelux traffic, suitable driving trailers were built for the first time. Over the years, the cars were partly rebuilt or modernised. At the highest level, the cars were fitted with pressure-protected windows and air-conditioning. Such carriages were also used in the replacement traffic of the FYRA high-speed trains.

Our role models: ICR coaches of both classes, as well as with luggage compartment for international use

With the new design of the ICR coaches, PIKO continues the series of internationally usable coach families in a consistent manner. The exact scale model perfectly reproduces the characteristic appearance of the prototype and is proof of state-of-the-art mould construction. This allows the finest engravings of roof beads or vents. Flush-mounted and tinted windows distinguish the model just as much as the highly detailed Y32 bogies with separately applied spring assemblies and reproductions of the brake discs. A multitude of finely designed details await the model railway enthusiast under the scale floor. This high quality model is rounded off with accessories that bring the car even closer to the prototype. Thanks to easily retrofittable interior and tail light illumination, the new PIKO ICR car sets accents on the model railway layout even when the lighting is dimmed. The driving trailer also has a front and rear lighting that changes with the direction of travel.

With the new PIKO coaches, attractive international trains can be put together at the highest model building level.
