Some information about the prototype:
With the E 410 class, the German Federal Railway introduced five multi-system locomotives at the end of the 1960s that could operate under the different overhead voltages of France, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Previously, journeys to these countries required time-consuming locomotive changes. Redesignated as class 184 in 1968, the locomotives initially ran between Cologne and Liège, linking Germany and Belgium. After being relocated to Saarbrücken, the engines operated between Trier, Luxembourg, and France, and also hauled fast trains in Saarland and the Palatinate. Of the five so-called “Europe locomotives,” two have been preserved as museum pieces since their retirement in 2002 and can be viewed at the DB Museum Koblenz-Lützel and the German Museum of Technology in Berlin.
