06.06.2019 Press release on the roll out of the PIKO H0 Expert ICE 4 in the Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg

On June 6th 2019 the ceremonial roll out of the brand new PIKO H0 model of the ICE 4 took place in the Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg.

With its multitude of lovingly and detailed designed installations, the Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg offers the ideal stage for the new presentation of a PIKO model. The model railway manufacturer from Sonneberg took advantage of this circumstance during a festive roll-out to present the PIKO H0 Expert model of the ICE 4 for the first time to media representatives and specialist dealers from the region.

The invited guests were able to convince themselves of the usual realistic and detailed implementation of the new PIKO model of the modern high-speed train.

The new DB AG BR 412/812 multiple units, which were jointly developed by Siemens and Bombardier for use in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, are powered by several cars, so-called powercars. The train configuration provides for various modular units from five-part to 14-part trains in double traction. This concept allows the train to be easily adapted to the individual requirements of the transport companies for the desired acceleration, speed and number of seats. To date, DB AG has ordered 85 twelve- and 45 seven-car multiple units in the basic configuration, consisting of tractionless end and control cars, powered seating cars and on-board bistro as well as non-driven seating, dining and service cars. The seven-car multiple unit has three powered cars and offers 456 seats over a length of 200 meters. A twelve-car multiple unit has six powered cars and 830 seats over a length of 346 metres. The maximum speed of the trains is 250 km/h. The design is based on the existing ICE fleet and has been further developed. Since December 2017, the first trains have been in regular service on the lines Hamburg-Würzburg, Stuttgart-Munich and Hamburg-Berlin-Munich.

PIKO has been a reliable and innovative manufacturer of model railways and model railway accessories for 70 years. The traditional company with its headquarters in Sonneberg, Thuringia, employs over 550 people at its two production sites in Sonneberg and Chashan in southern China and is one of the leading players in the industry. In the four gauge sizes G, H0, TT and N, PIKO offers its customers a wide range of realistic locomotive and car models as well as numerous attractive innovations every year. PIKO offers a complete range of locomotives, multiple units, passenger and freight cars, its own track and digital system as well as attractive building models.

As part of the roll-out, the owner of PIKO, Dr. René F. Wilfer, also reported to the guests on the positive business development of the Sonneberg model railway manufacturer in the course of the year to date.

By the end of May, PIKO was able to report sales growth of around + 4% compared to the previous year, thus successfully continuing the positive sales and earnings trend of recent years. The development in the export sector is particularly positive, especially in Italy, Switzerland and Poland, where the corresponding country-specific innovations were well received by the market.

In Germany, PIKO generated slightly higher sales than in the previous year and is therefore on target. In recent years, the Sonneberg-based manufacturer has developed to become a reliable partner of specialist retailers due to the punctual and stable supply of products, which is rewarded by these retailers, who are increasingly presenting and successfully selling PIKO model railway products in their stores. As a result, the Sonneberg model railway manufacturer has further strengthened its position as the third largest model railway manufacturer in continental Europe.

Due to the very attractive and extensive new product range of almost 400 new products in the four offered gauges, PIKO is confident to continue the positive developments in the course of the year over the coming months and to be able to reach the announced targets in 2019.
