Some information about the prototype and model

The functional locomotives of the V 100 series were instrumental in the disappearance of steam locomotives on branch lines and on non-electrified main lines. The field of application of the V 100.10 and .20 series locomotives, which were delivered in series from 1961, was predominantly in light passenger and freight service. From 1968 onwards, the locomotives were classified under the class numbers 211 and 212 in the new scheme of the Deutsche Bundesbahn. The more powerful variants of the V 100.20 series also performed their service on main lines, and the V 100.23 series could also climb steep lines. In 1994, the DB AG took over some of the machines into its stock. Although the last class 211 machine at DB AG was taken out of service in 2001 after almost 40 years, the machines are still in use today on many private railways throughout Europe. They are particularly common with track construction companies.

Form follows function - designers and engineers had internalised this principle when the V 100 was created in the late 1950s, but a model realisation makes this premise all the more demanding. The PIKO designers took this hurdle with flying colours and have created a fascinating model. A special eye-catcher is the locomotive's cooling system with finely etched grilles and the fan wheel visible underneath. The vivid engravings on the front parts and the driver's cab further structure the vehicle body. The overall impression is rounded off by the filigree bogies with numerous attached parts. During the painting and printing process, great importance was attached to being true to the prototype and also differences in detail in the colouring of the lettering were taken into account. Thus, the mixed lettering was depicted in different colours exactly as it was in 1985. The digital versions have switchable lighting for the driver's cab and the instrument panel. Thanks to the PluX22 interface, these functions can also be easily retrofitted to analogue models.

From epoch III to epoch VI, the V 100 is an indispensable workhorse on the model railway!
