Some information about the prototype and model

The class 185.1 is part of the large Bombardier TRAXX type family, which includes electric and diesel-electric locomotives for medium-heavy freight and passenger train service. The growth of DB AG's international business and traffic increased the need for electric locomotives with dual-system capability for cross-border freight service in the early 2000s. As a result, Bombardier developed the 185.1 series freight locomotive, which is technically a further development of the 145 series and also incorporates findings from the development of the 146 series for mass transit. For reasons of space, weight and cost, not all locomotives were equipped ex works with the technical equipment for operation in several power systems. If required, however, the locomotives can be retrofitted with the appropriate country-specific technology packages. TRAXX machines are in service in around 20 countries, with the DB Group having the largest fleet. DB AG's fleet also includes 200 units of the class 185.1. The TRAXX locomotives with the internal designation F140 AC1 are also highly popular with private railroad companies and are in service in numerous different color schemes.

With the completely new design of the class 185, PIKO fulfills the wish of many model railroaders of the nominal size N for a contemporary model of this modern and extremely widespread locomotive series. The proportions of the striking prototype have been perfectly transferred to scale in the model. The detailed engraved bogies, individually attached sandboxes, free-standing hand grips and filigree pantographs are evidence of modern tooling and high-quality manufacturing techniques. The powerful mid-mounted engine with its two precisely balanced flywheel masses provides excellent driving characteristics with the best traction performance. Two diagonally arranged traction tires help to bring the engine power to the tracks. The model comes from the factory with modern LED lighting with direction-dependent light change, as well as a modern Next18 interface for the foolproof installation of a digital decoder. The locomotives that are factory-equipped with a digital decoder also have switchable lighting for the driver's cabs and the main beam. A loving detail is the "locomotive driver's greeting" with the forehead lighting that can be triggered via function key F8. A variety of sound functions also provide entertainment in model railway operation.

Railways can't do without the 185 on either a large or small scale, and the new PIKO model makes it a little nicer on the small scale!
