Some information about the prototype and model

After 40 years of IC traffic in Germany, the rolling stock was a colourful mix, but also outdated and worn out. With the "IC mod." project, DB AG wanted to put an end to this state of affairs and initially had some sample conversions carried out from 2009 onwards to modernise the existing vehicles. In 2012, the series conversion then began in the Kassel, Neumünster and Nuremberg repair workshops, whereby the coaches received new interior furnishings according to ICE standard, partly new doors, and in the case of the ARkimmz, air conditioning for the first time and new wiring. The first modernised carriages could be used in regular service as early as the timetable change in December 2012. By the end of 2015, the majority of the fleet had been modernised, although some types were not converted.

In contrast to the prototype, the PIKO cars are completely new designs. The vehicles have been precisely reproduced on a scale of 1:87 and impress with the finest engravings and flush-mounted windows. The interior is highly detailed. The bogies convince with many fine details, such as individually applied magnetic rail brakes or reproductions of the brake discs. A look underneath the wagons is also worthwhile: machinery, battery compartments and supply lines have been reproduced with great attention to detail. The cars are of course prepared for the uncomplicated retrofitting of interior lighting.

"Every hour, every class" was yesterday, with the modernised Intercity coaches from PIKO, there are finally models of these vehicles that are in keeping with the standards.
